Northumberland Place
In November 2005 the practice was engaged to refurbish and upgrade an existing house, which dates from 1850, in the conservation area of Northumberland Place, Notting Hill, London.
A modern, comfortable and light environment was created within the framework of the existing house.
The original features of the house were maintained and visually enhanced by the juxtaposition of a new contemporary internal fit out. The basement area was completely opened up to form a communal area, blending the social functions of living, cooking, eating, lounging and outdoor enjoyment within one free flowing space.
Frameless glazing and careful placement of bespoke lighting and contemporary furniture were used to express a greater feeling of light and openness within a demanding floor area.
Work comenced on site in May 2006 & was completed in March 2007.
