MDA successfully designed and delivered the construction of a new family home in a prominent location in the heart of the Cotswold. Located on a hill overlooking the Churn Valley proposals were designed to replace an existing bungalow with outbuildings. Away from any natural settlement, in the heart of farmland, consent was achieved to build a substantial new family dwelling with integral annex accommodation. Designs carefully referenced traditional threshing barn structures, by a detailed study of their proportions and detailing, but also added contemporary elements to create a modern aesthetic. Rooms flowed into one another in an open plan arrangement and roof areas were opened up to maximise the feeling of space within and emphasise the feeling of being within a barn conversion. Roofs were carefully detailed to be exposed within, the primary stone walls of the barn continued on the inside and infill walls were carefully detailed in glazing or Oak cladding. A large open plan kitchen area was created on the rear of the property, fully glazed on all sides with large sliding doors to maximise the views across the valley.
